Vaping is an epidemic amongst teens. Between 2017 and 2018, the number of self-reported “vapers” in the 12th grade rose from 28% to 37%. Access to vape products marketed to kids is at the heart of the issue.

That’s why Dario supports the decision to up the smoking age to 21. Most seniors in high school turn 18 during the school year, then provide the products to peers. Placing barriers to access is a key method to reducing these numbers

This is an issue that Dario has combated for years. In 2018, he introduced legislation in the Minnesota Legislature proposing that the smoking age should be raised in the state. Now, those ideas are reflected at the national level.
