EDINA, Minn. Oct. 30, 2019 – Edina businessman, entrepreneur and former state representative Dario Anselmo today announced his intention to seek election to the District 6 seat on the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners.

Said Anselmo: “Serving as a Hennepin County Commissioner will allow me to continue work on the issues I focused on during my time in the state legislature. Whether it was infrastructure investment and reducing congestion on Interstate 494, reducing teen smoking and fighting the growth of vaping among our teens, or helping our community deal with mental health challenges and reducing teen suicides, the work I have already done has prepared me to tackle many of the issues facing our county.”

Dario was born in Duluth, raised in Orono and has been a resident of Hennepin County for nearly 50 years. He and his wife, Jeanne, have lived in Edina for 20 years. They have three children, all of whom have or currently attend Edina public schools.

Dario served as president of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance for over 10 years, and he was a long-time board member of the Minnesota Mental Health Association.

In addition to his family life and civic involvement, Dario is an entrepreneur and small businessman. He started his first company at age 21. After selling it he bought the Fine Line Music Café in downtown Minneapolis. Under Dario’s leadership the Fine Line became a cultural institution.

Dario co-founded the Warehouse District Business Association, and was a long-time member of the Minneapolis Downtown Council. Through those efforts he encouraged elected officials to enact policies to promote job growth.

During this term in the state legislature Dario passed legislation that expanded enrollment options for families in his district and was a tireless advocate for higher education and workforce development. He authored and passed public safety legislation and bills to cut taxes for Minnesota families. And Dario passed a bill to establish a statewide quit-line service to help Minnesotans quit using tobacco.
